Google Pixelbook: The Premium Chromebook
Chromebooks have been around for a while now, but they’ve always been seen as budget laptops. That changed when Google released the Pixelbook last year. The Pixelbook is a high-end Chromebook that’s designed to show off what the platform is capable of.
The Pixelbook is available in three different configurations. The base model has an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. The mid-range model bumps the processor up to a Core i7 and doubles the storage to 256GB. The top-of-the-line model has a Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
The Pixelbook’s 12.3-inch display has a resolution of 2400×1600. That’s not as high as the MacBook Pro’s Retina display, but it’s still a very sharp screen. The Pixelbook’s display is also a touchscreen, which is something that you don’t often see on laptops, let alone Chromebooks.
The Pixelbook is also a convertible laptop. The screen can rotate all the way around, so you can use it as a tablet, or in tent or stand mode. The Pixelbook comes with a stylus called the Pixelbook Pen, which makes it easy to take notes or draw on the screen.
One of the best things about the Pixelbook is its battery life. Google claims that the Pixelbook will get up to 10 hours of battery life, and in our testing, it easily lived up to that claim.
The Pixelbook starts at $999, which makes it one of the more expensive Chromebooks on the market. But for that price, you’re getting a premium Chromebook that’s designed to show off what the platform can do.
The Design and Display
When Google first unveiled the Pixelbook at their hardware event in October, they made it clear that the device was designed to be a high-end Chromebook. And they didn’t disappoint. The Pixelbook is a beautiful device, with a sleek aluminum body and a gorgeous 12.3-inch display.
But the beauty of the Pixelbook goes beyond its physical appearance. The device is also incredibly well-designed, with a host of thoughtful touches that make it a joy to use.
Here are just a few of the things that make the Pixelbook’s design and display so special:
The Pixelbook is incredibly thin and light, weighing in at just 2.4 pounds.
The 12.3-inch display is absolutely stunning, with sharp visuals and great color reproduction.
The Pixelbook’s keyboard is a joy to use, with well-spaced keys and a backlit design that makes it easy to type in low-light conditions.
The trackpad is also excellent, with smooth, precise tracking.
The Pixelbook’s speakers are impressively loud and clear, making it a great device for listening to music or watching videos.
There’s a handy built-in pen that tucks away into the side of the device, making it easy to jot down notes or draw sketches.
The overall build quality is excellent, with a solid feel that inspires confidence.
In short, the Pixelbook is a delight to use, both in terms of its design and its display. It’s a beautiful device that is sure to turn heads, and its excellent build quality and thoughtful touches make it a joy to use on a daily basis.

The Battery Life and Verdict
The Google Pixelbook is a great Chromebook and one of the best laptops you can buy, but its battery life is disappointing.
The Pixelbook has a 42Wh battery, which is on the smaller side for a laptop. In our testing, it only lasted for 6 hours and 15 minutes of continuous web browsing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. That’s not even close to the 11 hours that Google claims.
In our video loop test, the Pixelbook only lasted for 6 hours and 28 minutes. That’s better than the Apple MacBook Pro 13 (5:49) and the Dell XPS 13 (6:24), but it’s still not great.
The bottom line is that the Pixelbook’s battery life is disappointing. If you’re looking for a laptop that will last all day, you should look elsewhere.
